Hello All,
I’d like to draw your attention to several new postdoc and research associate positions open for applications at Oregon State University. Of note to this community, one of the positions seeks an experienced modeler for running SPH, while another seeks a GPU developer/admin. I hope that some of you will be interested in applying – please see the link at the end of the advertisement copied below.
– Greg Wilson
Oregon State University is seeking to fill five research positions at the levels of either Postdoctoral Scholar or Research Associate. These new hires will be welcomed into the diverse and research intensive coastal and ocean science and engineering group. The hires will join a collegial and active group of approximately 10 Postdoctoral Scholar/Research Associates, 30 graduate students, and 10 faculty members.
Postdoctoral Scholar / Research Associate topics:
-
Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing in the Ocean - The Postdoctoral Scholar will join an expanding program in oceanographic applications for Distributed Fiber-optic Sensing (DFOS) and Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS). The latest project is focused on understanding the relationships between seabed properties, hydrodynamic pressure signals (wind and infragravity band waves, currents), and recorded strain in the nearshore.
-
Ocean Wave Modeling - the Postdoctoral Scholar will join an active research group developing improved wave forecasting capabilities at important estuaries and harbors on the Pacific coast. Experience with WaveWatch III or similar spectral models is required.
-
GPU programming / parallel computing - Computer Scientist - an early-career researcher with experience in GPU-codes, parallel computing, and/or advanced machine learning is required. Project focus will be on ocean wave and circulation modeling.
-
High-resolution wave modeling - an early-career scientist with experience in high-resolution wave-phase-resolved modeling of wave hydrodynamics is required. Experience with GPU-based models, especially Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics, is preferred. The successful candidate will use model simulations to analyze field and laboratory data in the nearshore and swash zone, as part of ongoing collaborative research.
-
Coastal Wave/Circulation Modeling and Meta-Modeling - The Postdoctoral Scholar will take a leadership role in expanding and developing coupled modeling capabilities in the Pacific Northwest. Previous experience with one or more of the following is required: WW3, ADCIRC, SWAN, and statistical methods for reduced-complexity models.
Appointments: Specific appointment dates are somewhat flexible but can start as early as June 1, 2024. Appointments are renewable yearly contingent upon successful performance and availability of funds. The salary and benefits are competitive, and each new hire is expected to work on-site at the OSU campus in Corvallis.
Required Prerequisites: For each position, required prerequisites include a Ph.D. in either Physics, Oceanography, Geosciences, Computational Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, or a similar field. For each position, relevant topic-area experience is required and should be demonstrated in the candidate’s CV.
To Apply: Interested candidates should submit a one-page letter of interest and their CV to the following link: https://forms.gle/8QwcwHT8iD7vVgta9. After a review, qualified candidates will be asked to submit a full application.
